5 Premium Compact SUVs Coming To India
The SUV boom in India is something that continues to grow without stopping. Mid-size SUVs have grabbed headlines in recent years but exciting premium compact SUV segment launches will explode over the next two years.
Mahindra & Mahindra, Hyundai Motor Company, Tata Motors, Renault and Volkswagen are the leading automakers preparing to launch new models with better design, technology and performance.
Below mentioned are 5 such premium compact SUVs that are expected to land in India by the year 2027.
1. Next-Gen Hyundai Bayon
Hyundai Bayon is expected to be the first significant launch in this segment of the next generation by the end of 2026.
The model currently in use will be thrown out, and a new version will be constructed with India in mind (instead of Euros).
Highlights expected:
Positioned above Hyundai Venue. Positioned above Hyundai Venue. Interior and features are of higher premium quality. 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol unit (engine). The 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine comes as an option. Sportier and more dynamic design.
Hyundai will focus on buyers that prefer well equipped urban SUVs with good performance.
2. Production Version Of Mahindra Vision S
That is scheduled to start in early 2027 with the launch of a production version of Mahindra’s Vision S concept SUV.
The model will be offered above the Mahindra XUV 3XO in the market and designed to appeal to customers who want a rugged, yet utilitarian compact SUV.
Expectations:
It is built on Mahindra’s new NU_IQ platform. Boxy SUV design with a rough look. Off-roading capability more enhanced than that of a compact SUV. But it is not as hardcore as the Mahindra Thar.
However, it is also possible that this SUV becomes the most rugged compact SUV in India.
3. Second-Generation Tata Nexon (Codename: Garud)
A massive facelift is also on the cards for India’s best-selling SUV.
The Next-gen Nexon Tata (Garud internally) should have its first appearance around mid-2027.
Main information;
It is based on a more advanced X1 platform. Engine options are petrol and petrol-CNG. Diesel engine option may be dead. Safety and connectivity lines have been improved.
A new Tata Nexon EV based on the same generation is also expected to come out soon after the same ICE counterpart.
4. Production Version Of Renault Bridger Concept
Renault also plans to introduce a new compact SUV inspired by the Bridger concept by the end of 2027.
This SUV will be built on a shortened version of the platform that underpins the newest Renault Duster and will emphasize pragmatism and rugged styling.
Expected features;
Boxy SUV shape. Tailgate mounted spare wheel. Ground clearance (GC) is approximately 200 mm. Boot space can go up to 400 litres.
Engine variants;
Naturally aspirated petrol engine of 1.2 liters. 1.0-litre turbo petrol;
Hybrid and electric variants may be introduced in the future.
5. New Volkswagen Compact SUV (MQB A0 IN)
Another compact SUV is also under the Volkswagen brand with an expected launch in late 2027 in India.
The model would share the Skoda Kylaq’s underpinnings and would be based on the MQB A0 IN platform.
Possible features;
17 inch alloy wheels. Electric sunroof; Touchscreen infotainment system – 10.1 inches. Digital instrument cluster (eight inches). Front seats with air conditioning. Charging points for smartphones to be wireless.
Engine:
The 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine; Manual transmission with 6 speeds or automatic transmission with six speeds.
The styling may be picked from Volkswagen’s Volkswagen Tera that was introduced in Latin America.
